Introducing The 90 day Hacker Leaderboard and Revamped Invitations
If you’re a new hacker on HackerOne, starting from scratch can appear daunting. Perhaps you’ve looked at the long list of awesome hackers on HackerOne, looked at their rep, looked at your rep, and felt discouraged that it’ll take forever for you build up your rep so that you can have a higher chance at receiving invites to private programs?
What if we told you... that Invitations now only consider your activity in the last 90 days?
As you hack and improve, you get rewarded with an increased chance to program invitations, instead of basing it on an all-time score. This gives newly joined hackers and inactive ones that are ready to hack again, a better chance of receiving private invitations.
We launched this about a week ago and have already gotten some good feedback from some of you: @bugdiscloseguys, @emitrani, and @syntax-error to name a few!
To help you keep track of how you stack up compared to everyone else on the invitations list, we've added a new leaderboard (you can check out the new leaderboard here: https://hackerone.com/leaderboard/invites).
This new leaderboard is:
- Based on everyone’s activity in the last 90 days
- Recalculated every morning at 9am UTC
- Ranked by each hacker's individual score from this calculation: Reputation x Signal Percentile x Impact Percentile.
We restrict participants of this leaderboard to have maintained the following in the last 90 days:
- Positive signal
- Positive (non-null) impact
- Positive reputation gain
Invitations now directly uses this leaderboard as the hacker pool for invitations. Your chances of getting an invite is proportional to how well you rank on the leaderboard. Even though we only show the top 100 hackers on the leaderboard to the public, as long as you are ranked with a number, you will be considered in the hacker pool. To check this, you can view the leaderboard while logged in to your HackerOne account.
For instance, if this is the state of the 90 day leaderboard:
- Alice
- Bob
- Charlie
- David
For each invitation that goes out, the chances for each hacker receiving the invite would be:
Alice: 40%
Bob: 30%
Charlie: 20%
David 10%
Note: Percentiles are just exemplary and not real chance calculations.
With this update, we hope we can send more invitations to not just hackers that have had an incredible track record over the years, but also to the new additions to our community that have impressive skills.
