SAN FRANCISCO (March 10, 2020) — HackerOne, the number one hacker-powered security platform, reveals an over 100% increase in enterprise sales bookings year-over-year driven by increased expansion into financial services, government agencies, and new international regions, serving more Fortune 500 and Forbes Global 1000 companies than ever before. At the same time, the company placed as the world’s fifth most innovative company and top security organization globally on Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2020 and is recognized as one of America’s Best Startup Employers 2020 by Forbes.

HackerOne hackers represent a global force for good, coming together to help address the growing security needs of our increasingly interconnected society by searching for vulnerabilities in organizations’ assets before criminals are able to exploit them for nefarious purposes. For the fifth year in a row, every industry segment increased participation in the bug bounty market by adding net new programs on HackerOne. Governments had the strongest year-over-year industry growth at 214%, and last year saw the first launch of programs at the municipal level. In fact, the U.S. Department of Defense has detected more than 12,000 security vulnerabilities through HackerOne. Financial Services and Insurance continues to adopt hacker-powered security at an impressive rate, realizing a 41% increase this year. Today, 6 out of 10 of the top financial services organizations in North America are running hacker-powered security programs with HackerOne to identify unknown security vulnerabilities.

"Crowdsourced cybersecurity has quickly become an essential component of any organization’s digital transformation journey," said HackerOne CEO Marten Mickos. "From automotive, financial services, retail, tech to governments, security leaders are united in their view that working with hackers is a powerful way to pinpoint vulnerabilities across their digital assets. HackerOne represents the world's largest community of whitehats who stand ready to help any CISO or CIO who is ready to think like an attacker and reduce their risk of a breach."

In the age of digital transformation, security can get left behind. As cloud applications replace and augment on-premise applications, HackerOne seeks to tackle organizations top priorities to:

- Integrate security across the software development lifecycle

- Test applications early in the security design and reduce the risk of security exposure

- Accelerate compliance and audit applications regularly through on-demand penetration testing

- Build digital trust

- Bridge the cybersecurity skills shortage by utilizing the skills and know-how of experienced hackers performing security research

The positive power of the hacker community on HackerOne is enabling organizations to meet these needs at the frontlines. With a team of hackers from 170 countries across the globe, customers improve their return on investment and gain access to talent otherwise not available. In 2019, hackers earned nearly $40 million in bounties, which is nearly equal to the bounty totals for all preceding years combined. In total, hackers have earned more than $85M in bounties and have unearthed over 150,000 vulnerabilities in customer programs.

“At a time of increasing global volatility, this year’s list showcases the resilience and optimism of businesses across the world. These companies are applying creativity to solve challenges within their industries and far beyond,” said Fast Company senior editor Amy Farley, who oversaw the issue with deputy editor David Lidsky.
