Sustainability, Equality, Community

At HackerOne our mission is to empower the world to build a safer internet. We want our customers, security researchers, and employees to do that in a world that feels safe too. HackerOne champions initiatives across Sustainability, Equality, and Community.

Sustainability

HackerOne is a flexible work organization for reasons of strategy, agility, and sustainability. By having a flexible work philosophy, we have achieved a significantly lower carbon footprint.

  • We have a global community of ethical hackers and security researchers. Since all work is digital, there is no requirement for anyone to be in a certain location at a certain time, eliminating commuting, travel, property heating and cooling costs, and peak-time energy usage.
  • We interact with customers primarily through digital means. Customers can be onboarded and their programs launched without the need for anyone to travel. Ongoing customer service happens on digital channels.
  • Over 90% of employees work from their homes or from local and pre-existing co-working spaces, eliminating commuting and heating of large office spaces.
  • The majority of our internal meetings are held digitally, with attendees participating from their home (remote) location. This practice significantly reduces air and other travel, accommodation needs, and office space needs.
  • We run our software platform on an efficient and non-wasteful public cloud, which helps reduce energy usage overall.

Equality

HackerOne prohibits discrimination or harassment based on race, colour, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, veteran status or any other status protected by applicable law.

At HackerOne, we want all employees to feel safe and supported. We have Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that support women, black people, LGBTQIA+, and veterans.

ERGs meet regularly and provide mentorship opportunities and various programs, giving employees a platform to coordinate initiatives, share their experiences, and offer resources openly at HackerOne.

“Being a member of Black@ has had a profound impact on my time here at HackerOne. It has provided me with a supportive community where I can openly share my experiences, challenges, and triumphs, fostering a strong sense of belonging. Additionally, it has empowered me to actively contribute to shaping the company's diversity and inclusion efforts, and has offered outreach and volunteering opportunities to support Black faces throughout the cybersecurity space.”
- Evan Quash, Data Scientist

"Women@ has created a forum for women to share their stories and learn from one another’s experiences. It has been a platform for mentorship, and helping each other through the unique challenges of being a woman in the modern techspace.”
- Pamela Greenberg, Director, Talent Strategy

Community

At HackerOne we want to encourage connection with our communities. The Hack For Good initiative, established in 2020, enables hackers to donate a portion of their bounties to charitable causes.

Each April, we celebrate the HackerOne Month of Service, where we encourage employees to use their Volunteer Time Off (VTO) to give back to their community by volunteering with a local community nonprofit.
