Hackers have risen to the challenges presented by the past year, from supporting businesses through rushed digital transformations to committing more time to protecting healthcare providers.
The 2021 Hacker Report is a benchmark study of the bug bounty and vulnerability disclosure ecosystem, detailing the efforts and motivations of hackers from the 170 countries who represent the HackerOne hacker community and are working to protect the 2,000 companies and government agencies on the HackerOne platform.
"Hackers are a global force for good, working together to secure our interconnected society," said Luke Tucker, Senior Director of the Global Hacker Community.
Key findings include:
- The hacker community has expanded to over 1 Million hackers, and continues to grow globally
- 85% of hackers hack to learn and 62% do it to advance their career
- 50% of hackers have not reported a bug because of a lack of clear reporting process or a previous negative experience
- 9 hackers have passed the $1 million earnings milestone.
